The Success Cube™

The Success Cube™ is a simple model comprising six pieces of Duplo (large Lego) that form the basis of a novel coaching framework designed to assist individuals and teams in achieving their goals. This easy-to-use model encapsulates and measures the critical elements of skills, work rate, and attitude needed to pursue any goal successfully.

Define your success recipe:

The Success Cube™ coaching framework combines the physical Success Cube™ model with a Success Recipe that defines the specific skills, tasks and effort (work rate), as well as the attitude or mindset needed to achieve your desired goal.

Measuring your Progress:

The ability to measure progress on any journey to success is critical, and the Success Cube™ scoring mechanism enables users to do just that. It shows users their current state compared to the Success Recipe they are following. The Success Cube™ model immediately highlights areas requiring more focus and attention for success.

The Success Cube™ Difference:

Engaging with a physical model sets the Success Cube™ framework apart from other coaching methods. Considering that one-third of our brain’s neural connections are connected to our fingers, the power of interacting with the Success Cube™ as a multi-sensory physical manipulative should not be underestimated.

Success Cube™ Use Cases

The Success Cube has been described as an “infinite recipe book” because it can measure progress and provide feedback against any defined success recipe. This is really helpful considering the subjective and relative nature of success. Achieving success means different things to different people, and the Success Cube™ can be used to achieve big goals, small goals, and any goals in between!Core use cases are emerging in education, business, sports, and health and well-being, to include:

  • Subject specific mastery

  • Skills development

  • Performance assessment, feedback and coaching

  • Team building

  • Leadership development

  • Strategy alignment

  • Sales excellence

  • Mental toughness

  • Weight management

  • Personal accountability

The Success Cube™ Story

The Success Cube™ was created by Mark Hosking, who, after qualifying as a school teacher in South Africa, spent the next 30 years working in sales and leadership positions across Europe, Middle East, and Africa, with multinational technology companies such as Cisco Systems, BladeLogic (acquired by BMC Software), Juniper Networks, and Red Hat (acquired by IBM).In his very first sales role, selling office equipment door-to-door on the streets of London, Mark discovered a simple yet powerful 'Success Recipe' consisting of three essential elements: skills, work rate, and the right attitude. This recipe helped Mark to quickly understand he needed all three of these elements to be successful, and by not paying attention to any one of the elements would consistently lead to failure. The simplicity of this epiphany enabled Mark to use this “recipe” to great effect in subsequent roles as his career progressed.Years later, the Success Cube™ model came into existence after Mark was introduced to Lego Six Bricks created by a former college friend, Brent Hutcheson. He was captivated by the simplicity and impact of the Lego Six Bricks concept and its incredible influence on the educational development of children worldwide. Mark used the six duplo bricks to create the Success Cube™ encapsulating his success recipe of skills, work rate, and attitude into a physical cube model.Since then, Mark has utilized the Success Cube™ in his career development, with teams he has led, and with individuals he has coached and mentored. He currently works with businesses, schools, universities, sports teams, health professionals, and other consultancies, to explore interesting use cases and help individuals and teams harness the power of the Success Cube™.Despite the extensive application of the Success Cube™ in a wide variety of uses cases, the original idea behind the Success Cube™ is to make a difference in the lives of children, cutting through a busy, noisy, and often confusing world dominated by information overload, by sharing this very simple and practical approach to achieve success, based on the real-life experiences of an ordinary individual who has been blessed beyond measure.Mark is married to Mimi, and they have three grown-up daughters, all of whom are well-versed in the Success Cube™!

Success Cube™ Partners

For Individuals

The Success Cube™ is a proven framework designed to help individuals achieve fantastic results through a simple model that combines the required skills needed for the task with a solid work rate underpinned by a great attitude.1:1 coaching sessions are used to define the goal and “what great looks like” in terms of skills, work rate, and attitude, and capture this in a “success recipe.”Individuals then use the Success Cube™ model and scoring mechanism to receive instant feedback on how they are performing across all three layers of the model as defined in the “success recipe.”This helps them identify where they should focus their efforts to improve on their journey to success.

For Teams

The simplicity of the Success Cube™ framework also makes it an ideal tool for teams to use in pursuit of collective goals.Creating the Success Recipe for the team objective is an inclusive, workshop-based activity where all team members have the opportunity to provide input on the skills, work rate, and attitude required to achieve their desired goal.Once this is completed, the Success Cube™ model and scoring mechanism provide immediate feedback at an individual level, indicating how team members stack up against the Success Recipe they helped define. This feedback equips individuals and leaders with information to guide coaching and development discussions around specific gaps identified in the Success Cube™ model.

Success Cube™ Workshop

These workshops are a foundational step in the process of mastering the Success Cube™ and are typically delivered in 2-3 hour sessions. Group sizes of up to 100 attendees can be accommodated, and while online delivery options are available, face-to-face workshops are often more impactful, especially in a group setting.By the end of the workshop, users have a solid understanding of the Success Cube™ framework and the layers that make up the model. They will have participated in creating a Success Recipe and know how to use the scoring mechanism to build their Success Cube models and to measure themselves against the desired state of “what good looks like,” as defined in the workshop. After the workshop users are encouraged to use the Success Cube™ model as an accountability partner on their journey to success, and a cadence of follow up coaching sessions in either group settings or 1:1 sessions over a 6-12 month period is agreed to reinforce the learnings from the workshop.
